We'll start in Tokyo exploring the markets, street food, fine restaurants and neighborhoods of this vast city. Each area offers a unique ambience and all are different in character. Once we've discovered Tokyo, we'll board the Shinkansen for a fast ride to Sapporo and arrive in a winter wonderland where the sidewalks are heated! Japanese and international artists gather in Hokkaido to create ice sculptures and snow statues for the festival. It’s a celebration of the winter season, art, the world-renowned local cuisine and 2022 will be the 73rd Sapporo Ice and Snow Festival. After seeing the intricate, enormous ice sculptures, eating excellent food and being entertained by street performers, our next stop will be Zao, a spa town known for therapeutic hot springs and very local cuisine. Each room will have a private outdoor, hot spring fed onsen. Once we have relaxed and rejuvenated, we take off for Kyoto on the Shikansen. Charming Kyoto offers perhaps the best culinary opportunities in Japan. We'll take it all in at the centuries old Nishiki Market, Gion and Pontocho plus the vast food halls in some of the iconic buildings.
